Bulldog Portrait Bursary handing in 11 May

Submission 11th May to 17 Carlton House Terrace London SW1Y 5BD 10am-5pm
Applicants for the Bursary should bring a maximum of two portraits to be submitted in any painted or drawn medium. The work/s should be clearly labelled with artists name, contact details and “Bulldog Bursary” and accompanied by a completed form and payment of £6 per person.
There are no restrictions on age or location
Collection of works is on Tuesday 15th May 10am-5pm from 17 Carlton House Terrace

The Duke of Edinburgh joins the Queen

Jemma Phipps will be exhibiting a new portrait of the Duke of Edinburgh at our exhibition at the Mall Galleries Thursday 3rd May-Friday 18th May
which will sit alongside the collection of portraits of his wife put together to celebrate the Jubilee.

In this year’s discussion ‘Portrait’s : The Eye and the Lens’ we will be looking at photographic portraiture and the role of photography within portrait painting. Taking part in this year’s debate will be portrait photographer and Taylor Wessing Prize shortlisted artist, Mark Johnson. Mark will be speaking alongside artist John Keane, known for his media-based portrait representations of Rupert Murdoch, Diana Princess of Wales and Tony Blair. RP Member Saied Dai will also be contributing to the discussion with an insight into his own approach to painted portraiture.

98 portrait painters chosen

With over 1,300 works submitted the judges found it hard to select portraits for the annual exhibition, they felt that they had to turn good work away but have selected more artists than they have in recent years.
The 98 selected artists will exhibit alongside the Society’s eminent members at the Mall Galleries, London SW1 3-18 May

Digital Pre-Selection closes on the 23rd of this month. If you would like to be sure that your work has a good chance of being selected before going to the trouble of framing and transporting your work for the actual selection on 16th and 17th March please register now.
Bulldog-winner on Grand Tour

Rebecca Cartwright has been on a tour to Venice and to Hungary to build her experience and portfolio as part of the Bulldog Bursary. More of her work will be on show at our annual exhibition 3-18th May at the Mall Galleries London SW1.
