BULLDOG PORTRAIT BURSARY

Searching for excellence in portrait painting

BURSARY/MENTORING

The bursary is worth £5,000. It will be primarily up to the winner as to how they spend the budget. The RP propose to allocate a member as a mentor and the winner will be required at various points throughout the year to report on their progress. They will be invited to exhibit at the RP annual show in 2008.

The winner will be invited to spend time with a number of our members throughout the following academic year. Our Members have different skills / methods / advice to offer. For example, some Members may be prepared to have the winner with them for a week / 2 weeks while they paint. Other members will give advice as to how to set about getting commissions, how to plan the pictures (clothing, lighting, timetable etc. etc.). Much of this will depend upon who the winner is and what their requirements turn out to be and we do intend to try and gear the whole project to the selected winner. We are in discussion with the Arts Academy (by Tate Modern) with the possibility of providing studio space. The winner might wish to spend some of the bursary money on tuition at the Academy, which will be available from a number of our members who have studios there.

WHAT TO DO
