It is easier than you think to commission a portrait
The Royal Society of Portrait Painters, a charity dedicated to excellence in portraiture, prides itself on the standard of members work.
We provide a commissions service free of charge to you making it easier to select the right artist and our members are very experienced and will look after you and your commission well.
This website offers a comprehensive showcase for the society with detailed information on members and examples of their work. Find the Artist for you by clicking this link.
However, if you would prefer to look through our portfolios with the help and advice of our Commissions Consultant in central London, please make an appointment by telephoning 0207 930 6844 or emailing commissions@mallgalleries.com. Our consultant works for the Society so you will not be charged for the consultation.
After choosing your artist you make contact and set up the sittings. These are enjoyable occasions and many long-lasting friendships have been formed between artist and sitter. As a rule six to eight sittings of two hours each would encompass most artists’ needs. On exceptional occasions, such as when a portrait is posthumous, an artist can create a portrait solely from photographs. Most of our members are prepared to travel to their sitter, although there can be advantages to working in the artist’s studio, such as having good quality light.
